Distraction 186: Pirate Radio aka The Boat That Rocked

This trailer kind of sucks because it makes it sound as though the movie is about some American dude saving rock n roll in the UK, and it's not.   That said, this movie is wonderful!

Depending on where you are in the world, it's either called "Pirate Radio" or "The Boat That Rocked."   Rhys Darby steals the show and is second only to the soundtrack.

Distraction 184: Tom Jones - "It's Not Unusual"

We watched "Mars Attacks" on the 4th of July and this song has been stuck in my head ever since.

Distraction 160: Harland Williams

Harland Williams is silly.

He had the best line in "There's Something About Mary:"
"7's the key number here. Think about it. 7-Elevens. 7 dwarves. 7, man, that's the number. 7 chipmunks twirlin' on a branch, eatin' lots of sunflowers on my uncle's ranch. You know that old children's tale from the sea. It's like you're dreamin' about Gorgonzola cheese when it's clearly Brie time, baby."

Distraction 141: My Favorite Python

I love Michael Palin; favorite member of Monty Python (sorry Terry Gilliam), actor, writer, reality show traveler and oh, so cute & wacky!!

"Yes, I love the ocean...  God, how I... how I love her.  She's so... so damn..."
"Wet."
"Wet, yes.  Yes.  So damn, damn... wet."

Distraction 128: "Splendor in the Grass"

Warren Beatty in his first movie role, Natalie Wood being Natalie Wood and their young, on-screen romance destined to rip the heart out of anyone watching, because, as the trailer points out, we've all lived it.

Distraction 121: Scott Pilgrim vs The World

"You know this one girl like hair like this?"  "Yes, that's Ramona Flowers."

A cute & fun movie and based on a cute & fun comic.

The scene where 22-year-old Scott breaks up with his 17-year-old girlfriend after she tells him she loves him is sadly & strangely reminiscent of a past life.  (As is the girl with issues working at the record store.)

Distraction 118: Reverend Billy

Reverend Billy is my favorite living televangelist character.  Which might prompt the question, who is my favorite dead televangelist character?!  I will leave that for another post.

Hallelujah Brother Billy!  Can I get a witness?!

Distraction 110: The Yardbirds - "For Your Love" (Live 1965)

This song will be on my movie soundtrack.  I'm not working on a movie, but I know a good song for its soundtrack when I hear it.

Distraction 104: Scopitone

Have you ever heard of Scopitones?  They're a type of jukebox that featured a 16mm film to accompany the music, popular in the 50s & 60s.  The Joi Lansing short above, as featured on Cinema Insomnia, is what piqued my interest.

Distraction 85: Cinema Insomnia

The suits at KOFY were fools to not snatch up Mr. Lobo.  Cinema Insomnia is like Sir Graves Ghastly meets MST3K, only different.

Distraction 51: Raising Arizona

I just returned from Arizona.  I couldn't help but think of "Raising Arizona;" probably the funniest, most underrated movie by the Coen Brothers. So many wonderful details, in both the dialogue and props, cemented it as one of my all time favorites.

Distraction 45: Groundhog Day

"Watch out for that first step; it's a dooozy!"

Here's hoping you don't wake up to Sonny & Cher tomorrow morning... and the next... and the next.

Distraction 28: I'm Here

This movie is so sweet; not in a "that's sweet, braw" sort of way, just in an "aw" sort of way.  :)
